FOIA

Welcome to the Village of Homer\’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) webpage. Here you may review the Village\’s FOIA Procedures and Guidelines, as well as an easily understood Written Public Summary of those procedures and guidelines.

You may also download the Village\’s FOIA Request Form to request copies of public records prepared, owned, used, possessed or retained by the Village of Homer in the performance of an official function.

To obtain a Village of Homer public record, you must sufficiently describe a public record so as to enable the Village to locate it. The more specific you can be, the easier and faster Village staff can find the record. Please note that the Village is not required to make a compilation summary or report of information contained in already existing records.

Consistent with FOIA Procedures & Guidelines you will be assessed a fee for the Village to process your request. If you are currently receiving specific public assistance or are able to state facts to demonstrate you are indigent, you may be entitled to a full or partial waiver of the fee. For more information regarding fee waivers, see the FOIA Procedures & Guidelines.

Under Michigan FOIA, individuals who are serving a sentence of imprisonment in a state, county or federal correctional facility are not eligible to file an FOIA request.

It is the policy of the Village of Homer, consistent with the Michigan FOIA, to provide information regarding its affairs and official acts so that its residents can be informed and so that they may fully participate in the democratic process.
